description abstractMethods are presented to determine Lagrangian deformations and turbulence statistics from current followers (drogues, neutrally buoyant floats, etc.). Such determinations allow general advection-diffusion equations such as in Okubo (1966) to be directly evaluated. Methods are also presented to transform these deformations into oceanic velocity gradients.
