description abstractA workshop on the subject of atmospheric predictability was held during 23-25 April 2001 at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Of primary concern was the nature of forecast uncertainty due to initial conditionuncertainty of numerical models. Its purpose was to review the history and present state of predictability studies using global models as well as to determine which questions still require examination.
