description abstractNull hypothesis significance testing (NHST) is commonplace in atmospheric research, despite the many criticisms that have been leveled against its use in other fields of research. NHST is used, in papers in almost every issue of the Society's journals, to test correlations, means, and trends. Some of the major criticisms of NHST are summarized, and possible alternatives are discussed.
