description abstractA comparison is presented between vertical motion observed directly by a VHF wind profiler and the rainfall rate measured at two surface stations during an intense Colorado upslope spring storm. Averaged (8?9 hrs) precipitation rate and sub-synoptic scale vertical motion are well-correlated. Fluctuations of shorter duration present in the rainfall rate as well as in the vertical motion are also well-correlated.
