A Survey of External Users of NWS Information

Abstract

One of many studies by the Systems Development Office of the National Weather Service in support of the Automation of Field operations and Services (AFOS) Program is the External User Study. This study is directed at the question of how can the NWS best serve the external user community in the AFOS era. A key part of the study is a national survey of a cross section of the user community. Nearly 1000 subscribers were sent a questionnaire to evaluate their needs. Results of the survey, conducted under contract by the Bureau of the Census, are presented along with conclusions an user requirements.
