description abstractThe latitudinal distribution and the total mass of CO in the atmosphere are calculated for October 1984, April 1994, and October 1994 based upon measurements made by the MAPS experiment aboard the space shuttle. It is shown that the amount of CO in October 1994 was greater than in October 1984 and that this increase was dominated by increases in the tropical regions, particularly in the region north and northwest of Australia.
