description abstractMany classes of dispersion models used for air pollution nowcasting and forecasting require vertical profiles of turbulent parameters as input. A method of estimation of such profiles in the ABL using sodar data is proposed. This method is based on the Kolmogorov?Prandtl semiempirical theory of turbulence. Theoretical background and experimental verification of this theory are presented. The empirical constant CKP of this theory is determined experimentally. Data from an ultrasonic anemometer USA-1/T (METEK GmbH) taken at two heights (6 and 56 m) were used for this. Examples of turbulent profiles derived from the sodar data [Latan-1 three-component Doppler monostatic sodar developed at the Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IAP RAS)] using this method are presented.
