description abstractThe assumptions leading to the classical inertial subrange spectral forms are critically examined. It is shown how, by slightly relaxing the assumptions, a form can be obtained for the spectrum in the presence of other energy sinks. The technique is applied to a stably stratified medium, and the results compared with experiments and other theories.
