description abstractData on collisions between drops under conditions of free fall are presented. The results were obtained from an examination of 278 photographic pairs obtained by promoting collisions in the field of view of a two camera unit. The collision results are tabulated and reduced to working percentages. The results are discussed relative to their possible importance as factors in the drop size distribution of natural rain. It is concluded that collisions may play a significant part in controlling the distribution with size of raindrops. The discussion does not consider the probability of such collisions occurring during rain storms.
