| description abstract | We have studied a set of detailed mean horizontal wind profiles obtained with a three-component Doppler sodar. For inversion-capped, convective boundary layer conditions, empirical expressions for the mean horizontal wind and the wind shear in the first few hundred meters of the atmosphere are presented. The observations are parameterized with the height of the lowest inversion zi, the Monin-Obukhov length L and the friction velocity u*. From experimental values and empirical expressions, values for the turbulent heat flux are then deduced. | |
