description abstractThe history of the regional water supply system in southernmost Sweden is examined from the perspective of regional public‐works planning and planning under uncertainty. In this case, a history of successful regional water supply projects ended with the apparent failure of a large water supply scheme because of insufficient demand. Some implications of these successes and failures are discussed for the planning of regional water supply and other public works projects.
