description abstractA risk assessment procedure is presented that is proposed for the numerical rating and ranking of hazardous material sites in terms of their relative groundwater contamination potential. The assessment procedure has three distinct sections. The contamination severity is rated according to the quantity and characteristics of the chemical(s) found at the site. The site is rated for its sensitivity to groundwater contamination. These two factors are then combined into a relationship which provides a relative ranking of the groundwater contamination potential for a number of sites.
