description abstractThis note describes some interactions that can occur between stress resultants in elastic, three-dimensional structures when geometric (beam-column) nonlinearities are considered. These effects generalize the well-known two-dimensional effect of the axial load upon bending stiffness when beam-column theory is employed. Material nonlinearities are not considered.
