description abstractA relationship between the removal efficiency and hydraulic regimes of granular‐media trickling niters is presented. Using an equation derived in a previous paper to determine dispersion numbers, effluent concentration is calculated with equations of complete mixing at low rates and by means of a dispersed plug flow model for large hydraulic loadings. The application of this theory to the experimental results is shown, and the ranges of validity of dispersed plug flows and mix flows are determined. It is demonstrated that the predicted concentrations are in good agreement with the measured values.
