description abstractA two‐dimensional hydrodynamic‐temperature model was applied to Cherokee Reservoir to examine similarities between circulation patterns and observed water quality phenomena. A circulation pattern, involving reverse bottom flows which occurred during March through July, was believed to be the pattern most likely to influence: (1) High fecal coliform concentrations in a water supply intake, located in the reservoir upstream of a wastewater outfall; (2) depressed dissolved oxygen concentrations in the metalimnion; and (3) the development of dissolved oxygen depletion in the hypolimnion.
