description abstractA stochastic model of particulate transport in a porous medium is presented. The model includes the influences of the random movements of the particulates and the fluid in its development, which in turn are based on measurable physical and hydraulic characteristics of the situation under consideration. Model performance was evaluated using 40 sets of data collected under laboratory conditions. Results were found to be quite good for the turbulent flow conditions in the tests. Comparison with an earlier model presented by Sakthivadivel for Darcy flow conditions showed the stochastic model much better for the turbulent flow conditions tested.
