description abstractConcise closed-form equations for the mean transverse velocities and Reynolds shear stresses in the fully developed region of axisymmetric and two-dimensional jets are presented. These equations were derived from the Navier-Stokes equation and the Gaussian distribution of mean longitudinal velocity. The derived equations for Reynolds stresses agree with experimental measurements. The closed-form solutions are suitable for substitution into other equations for further investigation. Reynolds stresses are needed for numerical modeling of turbulent flows.
