description abstractResults from investigations on airflows over sand were compiled to show two interesting characteristics of these flows. The minimum friction velocity for the inception of wind erosion is shown to be 16 cm/s. The tendency of wind profiles converging to a small region appears to be associated with the observation that over most grains the friction velocity increases rapidly with the wind velocity but not the roughness length.
