description abstractAn explanation of the bottom boundary condition for the advection‐diffusion equation is presented. By introducing a source term to account for the sediment erosion process of open channel flow, the equilibrium between erosion and deposition produces a unique reference concentration. The concentration for open channel flow is predicted and compared with existing data. Comparison indicates that the predicted reference concentration agrees with river data.
