On the Role of Phoresis in Cloud Ice Initiation
Publisher: American Meteorological Society
Abstract: The role of phoresis in enhancing the scavenging of ice contact nuclei and thus the formation of ice in clouds is examined. Our result, which is that its role is very small, is contrary to previously published results.
On the Nucleation of Ice in Highly Supersaturated Regions of Clouds
Publisher: American Meteorological Society
Abstract: We simply but quantitatively analyze the hypothesis that the common observation, that ice crystal concentrations in clouds often far exceed measured ice nucleus concentrations, can be explained by our inability to reproduce ...
Turbulent Entrainment and Mixing in Clouds: A New Observational Approach
Publisher: American Meteorological Society
Abstract: A statistical analysis of cloud droplet interarrival times, measured using an aircraft-mounted forward-scattering spectrometer probe, is used to deduce spatial scales of inhomogeneity of droplet concentration in cumulus ...
A Technique for the Measurement of Cloud Structure on Centimeter Scales
Publisher: American Meteorological Society
Abstract: A system has been developed for measuring the distance between cloud droplets along the flight path with an airborne optical particle counter. This technique resolves separation distances as small as 0.2 mm at a typical ...
