description abstractThis paper describes the elastic field of an elliptic inhomogeneity that has debonded over an arc of its common boundary with a different elastic material in which it is embedded. Eshelby’s method of equivalent inclusion with a stress-free eigens train is employed. The solution is facilitated by the properties of Green’s functions. Only the antiplane strain case is treated for illustrating the procedure. Numerical results are presented for the stress intensity factors at the tips of the debonded arc, as well as for the relative displacements across the debond.
