description abstractThe problem of the stress-field of an elliptic inhomogeneity that has debonded over an arc of its common boundary with a different elastic material is studied under plane-strain conditions. Eshelby’s method of equivalent inclusion is employed. The “equivalence relation” is solved by a method that is applicable to any general plane-strain situation. Further, the relative displacements of the debonded faces are derived from the discontinuous behavior of individual terms associated with the derivatives of Green’s function. Numerical results are presented for the stress-intensity factors at the tips of the debonded arc and the relative displacements across the debond.
