description abstractThe process of “creep-feed” grinding is briefly explained and experimental results, obtained after creep-feed grinding a number of hard and soft low alloy steels, are reported. Surface grinding and deep-form grinding results obtained by previous workers are reevaluated and the possible effect of the presence of hard carbide populations in the work-piece matrix is discussed. The results in this paper, both with and without continuous dressing, show that the bulk homogeneous hardness value of the workpiece directly affects the magnitudes of the specific energies obtained during creep-feed grinding. This hardness-related effect may not necessarily be observed during conventional surface grinding.
