description abstractDescribed in this paper is an approximate technique for the simulation of a mechanical feature pattern gage (a go/no-go gage). The procedure involves the unconstrained minimization of a judiciously constructed response function. The formulation of this function as well as the development of the associated algorithm are presented. Moreover, the technique is demonstrated on an assortment of sample problems.
