description abstractA new method for designing cam profiles which modifies the residual vibration spectrum in a desired way is presented. This method utilizes the convolution operator to modify the dynamic properties of the cam motion in a specified way, while maintaining the total displacement of the motion. The method is illustrated by developing families of cam profiles of increasing continuity, and also by developing cam motions whose residual vibration spectra have significant zones of near zero vibration.
