| description abstract | The High Volume Instrument (HVI) classification of cotton provides a detailed characterization of fiber properties that are important to the cotton marketing and manufacturing industries. Several of these properties are influenced by gin machinery; for example, lint cleaners improve the trash grade, grayness, and yellowness of cotton. HVI measurements revealed that moisture content of the cotton during gin processing influenced fiber properties more than did gin machinery. Fiber length, fiber strength, length uniformity, and trash grade decreased as the moisture content during gin processing decreased. | |
