description abstractA description is given of an electrolytic tank which was constructed for measuring the lift of aerofoils when boundary layer effects are considered. The associated electrical circuits for measurement of potential and potential gradient are given. Experiments were carried out on a single Piercy 12/40 aerofoil, and the measured lift agreed with wind tunnel observations within 1 percent. It is concluded that the electrolytic tank may be a useful tool in application to such problems.
