description abstractMethods used to measure the thermal insulation properties of fabrics and the results obtained using these methods are reviewed. The standard methods for measuring thermal insulation properties are discussed and an apparatus is described that measures thermal resistance of fabrics in the presence of circulating air. The results obtained with the apparatus are reported for three distinct groups of fabrics. Weight, thickness and air permeability are related to the thermal resistance values of these fabrics.
