description abstractThe subject treated in this paper forms a part of a more precise thermomechanical consideration in designing of rolls in the continuous casting plant at the iron manufacture. From an analytical point of view, a fundamental problem in rolls is reduced to the problem of solving the transient thermal stress in a hollow circular cylinder due to a rotating arc heat source with a constant angular velocity. Numerical results are given for the thermal stress distribution in actual rolls.
