description abstractA solution for an interface edge crack whose surfaces experience no tangential slip is presented. At the crack tip, K I is found to be identical to that for a surface crack in a homogeneous medium. Moreover, the shear stress is singular both at the surface and at the crack tip, with K II at the crack tip being equal to −βK I , where β is Dundurs’ constant. The crack opening displacements were calculated using a successive approximation scheme, which shows remarkable speed of convergence in this case.
