description abstractPresented in this paper are two new design techniques, based on optimality criteria, for selecting the cross-sectional sizes of the links within a mechanism. The objective is to minimize weight subject to stress and displacement (deformation) constraints. The mechanisms are assumed to be undergoing vibrational effects. These new optimality criterion methods are compared with a standard SUMT technique of nonlinear programming.
