description abstractDrilling muds are rheologically complex. Models presently used to characterize their behavior are those of Bingham and Ostwald-deWaele (power law). The Herschel-Bulkley model is shown in this paper to be superior, but more difficult to implement with theoretic exactness. However, a simplified approach suitable for field use is developed and compared to rigorous solutions.
