description abstractAn improved general theory for the least-squares synthesis of function-generating mechanisms is developed. This theory leads to a rapidly converging iterative-type algorithm, the use of which is illustrated by two planar four-bar examples. The theory and associated algorithms may be applied to the synthesis of any planar or spatial function-generating linkage.
