Budgeting for Facility Repair and Maintenance

Abstract

Budgeting for public‐facility and infrastructure maintenance and repair is of grave concern for civil engineers, since public infrastructure is the responsibility of many civil engineers in both public and private sectors, in their role as facility managers and consultants. This paper discusses different maintenance and repair‐budget models in use or under development which, if understood by engineering managers, can be applied to develop an appropriate level of funding for maintenance and repair. For those organizations applying total quality management (TQM) techniques, these budget models can also be used to improve or benchmark organizational performance against similar organizations.
