description abstractA beam supported by an elastic/perfectly plastic foundation is considered for a particular case where a concentrated force and a moment are acting on one end of the beam. This analysis is broadly applicable for bonded‐joint cracking when a shear component of the force is absent. A closed‐form solution is derived by replacing the plastic zone by a uniformly distributed load. The solution agrees well with finite element analysis.
