description abstractThe objective of this contribution is to experimentally investigate whether self-compacting concrete (SCC), while in its fresh state, behaves differently compared to traditional concrete. To serve this cause several self-compacting and conventional concrete mixes of two strength classes are produced at the laboratory, and properties such as robustness, slump flow loss, and formwork pressure are assessed. All mixtures are designed for vertical casting into walls and tested accordingly. Special laboratory apparatus, such as tilting drum and forced paddle mixer, patterned laboratory pump, and pressure sensors are used for mixture production, material maintenance, and formworks casting to best simulate in situ conditions. Tests are also carried out in hardened concrete to assess mechanical properties as well as concrete durability at the age of 28 days.
