description abstractIn the transition from engineer to manager, the individual's attention shifts by necessity, from detail to overview, specific to general and technical to administrative. To make that transition, the responsibilities of both the individual and the organization in interpreting changing career goals and organizational needs must be identified as the individual moves through the organization. Some paths may simply turn into dead ends while others may diverge to multiple choices and again converge. The variety of paths will be a challenge to him, requiring an assessment of his own situation and an evaluation of the paths that will meet changing goals and objectives as his career matures.
