Restoring Honor

Abstract

The low status of the construction trades in society is bemoaned. It is recommended that organizations involved in construction join forces to change this state of affairs. Tours of building sites, it is contended, should be organized for children in grade school. New types of toys, it is argued, could pique the interest of children and perhaps encourage them to pursue careers in this area. Special internships for educators and guidance counselors could be devised with a view to perhaps changing their opinions on this profession. Special academies for imparting knowledge on building trades should be founded. Finally, it is argued that an effort should be made to ensure that stories on the successes achieved by the construction industry find their way to the media.
