description abstractWhen reinforcing cages for reinforced concrete structures are fabricated by robots using tack welds to improve productivity, the ductility and strength of the rebars are affected. This paper presents information on the effect of welds on the mechanical properties of rebars under uniaxial monotonic loads. It is found in the study that welding reduces the ductility and strength of rebars, but that annealing is not necessary from the standpoint of reinforced concrete design.
