description abstractCSTRUCT is a computational environment for the structural design and analysis of earthquake‐resistant steel frames. CSTRUCT is currently running on a MicroVax II/GPX workstation. This paper summarizes our recently developed earthquake‐resistant design philosophy and emphasizes the strong need for a computational environment to support this design philosophy, as well as traditional approaches to design. An example design problem is presented as a means of demonstrating the features and capabilities of CSTRUCT.
