description abstractIn this study, the role of municipal solid waste (MSW) behavior in the stress-deformation response of interfaces in a lined landfill system was assessed. MSW was modeled using a constitutive model that considers its time-dependent and degradable characteristics. Effects of compressibility, degradability of MSW, slope geometry, membrane properties, and lift thickness on the interface responses were evaluated. The study implied that in addition to stress levels, MSW characteristics control the mechanical response of lining components.
