description abstractCost and schedule increases are common in engineering design projects. Some research has studied factors associated with better design performance, but the reasons for cost and schedule increases are not formally investigated. This paper identifies the reasons bottom up from four case project documents and further quantifies their contributions to cost and schedule increases. These reasons are complete and can be used to analyze the cause-effect relationship, trace responsibility, and improve performance for engineering design projects.
