description abstractPreliminary measurements of tropospheric and stratospheric parameters using the large 430 MHz radar at Arecibo, Puerto Rico, show excellent agreement between a wind profile deduced from the radar back-scatter and a profile obtained simultaneously from a rawinsonde ascent from San Juan. The measured variations of scattered power with altitude agree quite well with predictions of atmospheric turbulence theory.
