description abstractEquations are developed to compute the size of particles partially contained within the sampling area of the PMS two-dimensional particle size spectrometer. This technique permits the effective sampling volume of the device to be increased considerably over the sampling volume obtained by the two other techniques in common usage. Size spectra obtained by this technique are compared with size spectra obtained by the two other techniques and with spectra from two other probes on the T-28 aircraft in a thunderstorm in northeast Colorado.
