| description abstract | Using the Chatanika radar near Fairbanks, Alaska, vertical profiles of horizontal wind extending over an altitude range of about 2 to 23 km have been measured. These profiles agree in detail with simultaneous rawinsonde measurements made nearby. The radar also measures vertical motion, a capability which the rawinsonde does not have. Since the radar technique can monitor the winds with good spatial and temporal resolution, the Chatanika radar is an excellent facility for studying various dynamic processes in the troposphere and stratosphere of the Arctic. | |
