description abstractThe career development of a professional should not be viewed solely in terms of technical and managerial skill. Advancing one's ability to make value decisions is a critical component of professional development. Unfortunately, the resources for an individual or a company to improve their knowledge of professional value responsibilities are not readily available. In this paper, the approach promulgated by the Institute for Professional Practice is presented as a way of evaluating value conflicts in which a professional might become involved. Proper identification, planning, and practice can help resolve conflicts in a way that is acceptable to all parties involved. Resources on corporate values and ethical issues are scarce; therefore, the professional will need to apply a self-study approach. Properly balancing corporate and personal values is important to career advancement.
