description abstractThe dispersion and amplitude characteristics of internal wave motion are determined by a matrix method which lends itself readily to computer analysis. A layered density structure may be chosen to fit actual oceanic conditions. The method is shown to have good agreement with a simple analytical solution. Dispersion and amplitude characteristics have been determined for two typical oceanic sites, one in the Arctic Ocean and one in the Atlantic.
