Coordination of Meteorological Services and Supporting Research in the Federal Government

Abstract

The Office of the Federal Coordinator for Meteorological Services and Supporting Research has a unique role in the meteorological community. It is the only office within the federal government with the responsibility and supporting infrastructure to promote coordination and cooperation among the agencies involved in weather service activities and supporting research. It supports all agencies that are engaged in these meteorological activities or have a need for meteorological services, not only those with large weather programs. And, the results of its work enhance the technical content of the agencies' programs as well as contribute to increased government efficiency. The office is described and the programs, plans, and publications in which the office is the most active are reviewed.
