description abstractA qualitative picture of the flow patterns around a falling drop as a function of Reynolds number is deduced from the experimentally determined structure of the ventilation coefficient. These predicted flow patterns are compared with the present experimental and theoretical knowledge of flow around circular cylinders and spheres.
