description abstractMean soundings are presented for the typhoon eye and storm circulation, based principally on dropsonde data taken by reconnaissance aircraft flying at the 700-millibar level. The vertical distribution of temperature and moisture shown by these soundings, and visual observations made in the eye, are used as a basis for a qualitative discussion of the pattern of vertical motion in the eye.
